Ukraine lowers forecast of wheat and corn exports

Ukraine's Grain Trade Association, UGA, announced on Wednesday that the country's 2020 wheat harvest was 26.6 million tons, while corn production could reach 35.3 million tons.
Ukraine is expected to export 17.5 million tons of wheat, 29 million tons of corn and 4.5 million tons of barley in the 2020/21 season, the association said in a statement.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Economy this week lowered its forecast for the country's grain production from the previous estimate of 70 million tons due to drought in most regions to 68 million tons.
The ministry reduced its forecast for the corn harvest from 35 million tons to 33 million tons, while the agricultural consultancy APK-Inform lowered its forecast for the corn harvest due to a drought by 8% to 35.1 million tons.
Ukraine is one of the world's largest corn producers and exporters. The country harvested 35.9 million tons of corn in 2019 and exported about 29 million tons of corn.
According to APK-Inform, exports could fall to 28.5 million tons in 2020/21.
