In Ukraine, the weather and soil conditions for the summer grain are excellent. Sowing started at the beginning of March in March.
7 million hectares of summer cereals are to be sown, including 5.4 million hectares of maize and 1.14 million hectares of summer barley.
Weather services warn that a rapid rise in temperatures could reduce soil moisture and then adversely affect plant development. Ukraine has an exceptionally warm winter. The proportion of poorly standing winter grain has now dropped to 8-9%. In mid-March, 10-11% of the stocks were still rated as negative.
The consultancy APK-Inform announced earlier this week that night frosts in the north and in the middle of the country could damage winter crops in the fields. As a result, the deputy agriculture minister lowered his grain harvest expectations from 75 million tons to 65 million tons.
