In Ukraine sowing of summer crops began in. So far, 551,000 hectares or 23% of the planned areas have been ordered. This is reported by the US Department of Agriculture. Spring barley was planted on an area of 362,000 hectares, as well as 142,000 hectares of peas, 21,000 hectares of oats and 27,000 hectares of summer wheat.
The sowing of sugar beet started as well. It occurred on the first 13,000 hectares or 4% of the planned sowing area totaling 302,000 hectares.
The plan is to sow summer crops this year on an area of 7.4 million hectares. Of which 4.6 million hectares of corn, 1.6 million hectares of barley, 412,000 hectares of peas, 200,000 hectares of oats and 182,000 hectares of wheat.
However, analysts believe that the late start of sowing could still influence the choice of culture.
Ukraine is the world's third largest exporter of grain and summer and winter crops could exceed 14 million hectares this season. Last year, summer crops were grown to 7.3 million hectares and the harvested volume reached 61.3 million tons.
