Ukraine: UGA lowers forecast for corn harvest

The Ukrainian grain trade association UGA has reduced its forecast for the corn harvest in 2020 from 38.9 million tons to 36.4 million tons. At the same time, the forecast for corn exports in the 2020/21 marketing year was reduced from 33 million tons in the previous month to 31 million tons.
The changed forecast is justified by the excessively dry weather that has burdened the corn crops in the Ukraine in the past few weeks and will have a negative impact on yields.
Ukraine is one of the largest corn exporters. In 2019, 35.9 million tons of maize were harvested. The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced that corn exports reached 29.9 million tons in the 2019/20 season (July to June). In the current 2020/21 season, Ukraine has exported 479,300 tons of corn so far.
