The Ukrainian wheat harvest in 2020 is likely to be 18% smaller than in the previous year and then reach 23.2 million tons. Wheat exports would then decrease by a quarter to 14.9 million tons, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Affairs' estimates yesterday.
In 2019, the Black Sea land harvested 28.3 million tons of wheat and could export the record amount of 20.5 million tons in the 2019/20 season, which ends on June 30.
Private market watchers and analysts estimate the wheat harvest this year at only 25-26 million tons. The total grain harvest in 2020 is estimated at 68 million tons, of which 35 million tons would be maize and 7.9 million barley. The ministry hopes to export a total of 47 million tons this season.
