The supply of mature cattle for slaughter is also high this week and surpluses are reported from most regions. Slaughter weights rose by another 300 grams compared to the previous week to 98.2 kg. The situation is not expected to ease until the end of next week at the earliest. In the run-up to the quotation, the large slaughtering companies demanded price reductions to take account of the tense situation on the meat market. The trade in pork is still proving difficult. There is currently hardly any demand for premium cuts in particular. Only sales of processed meat are going reasonably well, but here too there are markdowns. Some of our European neighbors are also reporting large surpluses.
