The RB Eden is for weeks on a random walk. The ship loaded 70,000 tonnes of sorghum for China on March 18 in Corpus Christi, Texas. When China imposed a fine of 25% on US sorghum from mid-April, the ship was diverted to Spain shortly before its arrival in China. The situation was similar with another hundred thousand tons, because the exporters were looking for new customers all over the world.
When China put an end to punitive tariffs last Friday as a sign of goodwill and shortly before the second round of negotiations in the US trade dispute, the RB Eden was already near the Spanish port of Cartagena. There it did not arrive, because now the cargo should be delivered to China.
Now the ship is expected to arrive in Singapore on June 26, where it will receive its final unloading site in China.
However, four ships with sorghum diverted from China have already been unloaded in Spain. Other ships with the same fate are still heading for Spain.
