In Ukraine there are currently the highest wheat prices in the season because the foreign demand is very good, according to the consulting company APK-Inform this morning.
On April 16, export wheat with 12.5% protein in the Black Sea port cost $ 227-232 / ton. The highest price so far this season was USD 226-231 / ton at the end of January.
Although the grain harvest in Ukraine far exceeds domestic consumption, Müller and Becker asked their government last month to restrict exports, as otherwise the price of bread would rise. As a result, government officials had signaled their willingness to follow business recommendations.
Ukraine has so far exported 18 million tons of wheat in the 2019/20 season; until June 30th 2010 there are still 2 million tons available for export.
In neighboring Romania, there is already an order not to export wheat to EU third countries this marketing season. In recent weeks, Russia had also decided to limit wheat exports to 7 million tons by the end of June. Domestic demand on the local market had risen due to the corona crisis.
