The German winter wheat acreage for the harvest in 2018 has been reduced by 5.6% and is now 2.95 million hectares. This was reported this morning by the Federal Statistical Office.
In December, the estimate was still at a decline of 4.7%.
As it rained a lot last autumn, many farmers could not order all the arable land planned for winter wheat.

Germany is the second largest producer of wheat in the European Union and in many years the largest producer of rapeseed. This is used to make cooking oil and biodiesel.
Grain corn cultivation in Germany increased by 7.4% to 463,000 hectares.
Silo maize, which is used as feed for biogas plants or as fodder for livestock and therefore barely traded, has been cultivated on 2.14 million hectares. That's an increase of 2.14%.
