Norwegian fertilizer maker Yara has ramped up part of its Dutch production capacity after maintenance work, while other plants will remain closed due to an increase in the cost of natural gas, the company's CEO said today.
Yara said in September that it would cut back its European ammonia production due to the costly gas situation.
"We have put some plants back into operation and fertilizer prices have also risen, but that has consequences that worry me," Svein Tore Holsether told Reuters on the sidelines of a conference.
"It means, first and foremost, more expensive products for the farmers and later more expensive food for the people," he said.
