Oil World estimates high rapeseed harvest in the EU and neighboring Ukraine
The EU rapeseed harvest (excluding Croatia) is expected to be around 1 million tons higher than previously estimated by Oil World at around 20.4 million tons. In Germany alone, 5.8 million tons or an increase of 19% and in Poland 2.4 million tons or an increase of 24% are forecast compared to the weak previous year. The Czech Republic is also expected to increase by 11% to 1.2 million tons.
Harvests in France are expected to remain weak at 5 million tons or -9% and in the UK at 2.0 million tons or -22% due to excessively wet weather conditions in the autumn and winter.
Ukraine is expecting an increase of 54% to around 2 million tons and will be able to export a considerable proportion to the EU.
Despite higher domestic production, the EU remains an import region for rapeseed, albeit with the proviso that GMO regulations are complied with. This means that Canada, the world's largest rapeseed export region, is largely excluded from EU imports. Other countries only have comparatively low export potential, barely exceeding the 1 million tonne limit.
