EU-KOM with slightly revised rapeseed harvest estimate: it remains tight
In the latest Oct. 24 issue, the EU Commission again revised the rapeseed harvest slightly downwards to 17.14 million tons. The previous year's figure was 19.75 million tons. The decline is due to the smaller area under cultivation of 5.8 million hectares (previous year: 6.2 million hectares) as a result of unfavorable sowing conditions and additionally lower yields of 30 dt/ha (previous year: 32 dt/ha).
EU rapeseed consumption was reduced again to 22.46 million tons. In the previous year, 24.34 million tons were processed.
The necessary imports to cover the shortfall were increased to 5.85 million tons.
The harvest losses were mainly in the major production areas such as Germany (-14%), France (-10%), Poland (-11%), the Czech Republic (-28%) and Romania (-31%).
