BMVEL: unexpectedly high rapeseed harvest in 2022 The German rapeseed harvest is estimated by the BMEL at an unexpectedly high 4.3 million tonnes . The area under cultivation has increased by around 8% compared to the previous year and the yield per hectare by 12.6% to 39.5 dt/ha. Mecklenburg-West Pomerania still has the largest share of the German rapeseed harvest with 19.3%. Other important rapeseed growing areas are Saxony (10.2%), Saxony-Anhalt (9.9%), Thuringia (9.8%) and Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony, each with 7.8%. The harvest increases in 2022 are remarkably high in many federal states at 20 to over 40%. This is due to the increased acreage and increased yields per hectare . The highest area yields of over 43 dt/ha were achieved in Schleswig-Holstein. Rhineland-Palatinate reaches 42.6 dt/ha and in Baden-Württemberg and Hesse 41.8 dt/ha were achieved. NRW also achieved 41.9 dt/ha. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 40.5 dt/ha were threshed. In contrast, Brandenburg clearly falls behind with 33.5 dt/ha.In retrospect, the year 2021/22 turns out to be a favorable production period. The sowing conditions in 2021 were excellent; in the winter/spring period there was high rainfall, which replenished the soil water reserves. The dry period in early summer did little damage to yield formation, but it did result in a dry harvest. The sowing conditions in 2022 , on the other hand, do not look very promising due to the dry soil due to the lack of precipitation. Oilseed rape prices of 60 €/dt are offset by rising fertilizer prices and limited pesticides.
