Noticeable decline in the proportion of rapeseed in biodiesel production In the latest report from the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE) on the biofuels market in Germany and the EU, it emerged in 2016 that production has changed only slightly in comparison to previous years. Biodiesel has the largest market share compared to bioethanol with a share of two thirds 27% .Particularly striking is the 30% decrease in rapeseed use in biodiesel production in 2016. At a constant fuel production, the waste oils and other residual / waste materials of vegetable oils more than doubled . In the meantime, both sources of raw materials are at the same level when converted to biodiesel. The wastes / residues can be measured by a significantly higher degree of environmental friendliness reduced greenhouse gas production. The increasing disposal costs for the waste also help to pave the way for biodiesel productionThe proportion of production from imported palm oil has increased significantly.Despite the high transport costs from Malaysia and Indonesia, the raw material can still compete in the cost comparison. For 2017, this development is likely given the rise in palm oil prices do not continue. In contrast, soybean oil and other oil-containing raw materials have disappeared into insignificance . In Germany, approx. 45% of EU biodiesel produced. Most of the raw materials come from our own country. The German biodiesel production in 2016 came to approx. 75% out Rapeseed as raw material and 22% as waste or residues. However, the rapeseed rate fell by 35% compared to the previous year . By contrast, the use of waste / residues has increased by approx. 20% increased. Part of it will be from neighboring countries imported. A continuation of declining rapeseed use has serious consequences for rapeseed price and oilseed rape production in the EU. First of all, it should be noted that while the EU still has an import requirement for oilseed rape , it could quickly approach zero.In the case of rapeseed oil exports , there is stiff competition from Canada as the world's largest exporter of canola. Other Vegetable oils such as palm and soybean oil are considered Market leader in the oilseed business.Rapeseed prices at producer level of more than € 35 / dt are at least necessary in order to be competitive with other market crops.
