Price increases in the rapeseed trade

With a tailwind from the grain markets, rapeseed contracts made moderate profits in yesterday's trading. The May date increased by 7.50 euros/ton to 430.75 euros/ton. In Canada the scoreboards also lit up green. In particular, the report from the Canadian Statistics Office that the area under cultivation for oilseeds is continuing to shrink strengthened the bulls. Analysts expect this to amount to 21.39 million acres, which is below last year's acreage of 22.08 million acres. Market participants refuted the report by speculating that the current very good growing conditions could lead to more canola being grown. However, it remains to be seen what the area under cultivation will be until the harvest
