Food retailers are currently switching to early potatoes, most of which are currently imported. At the same time, domestic producers are concerned about the high stock levels of alternative produce. Although their quality is consistently good, demand is falling noticeably.
The first domestic early potatoes from under-film cultivation are now also being marketed - but so far mainly via direct marketing.
The persistent drought remains a key problem for potato farmers. Although the rainfall last weekend provided some initial relief, concerns about the water supply still prevail. On a positive note, however, the current low disease pressure, especially compared to the previous year, should be noted.
There has recently been a further noticeable fall in prices for industrial goods. However, there are now signs that prices are bottoming out. There is currently almost no demand for free goods in this segment.
