On the futures market in Leipzig, the prices for the April-23 contract are weaker today with low turnover. With a current loss of EUR 0.30, the contract has fallen below the EUR 25 per quintal mark again. Bid and ask prices are currently far apart at over EUR 0.40. In the April 24 contract, these are even 1.30 euros/dt apart. There is still no interest in trading the June-23 contract. Open interest remains at zero, bid and ask prices are completely absent. There is little change in the market for processing potatoes. Slightly firmer prices are reported here and there, and there is still manageable demand for individual varieties, but overall the factories are well supplied and primarily order contract goods from farmers. The market in Belgium is also unchanged. The demand for free potatoes is also sluggish here. Only excess quantities from contract cultivation are accepted by the factories on a larger scale. However, the Balkan countries are showing more and more interest in Belgian fried potatoes, but deals are currently not being concluded due to the high transport costs. In France, prices are also stable. The potato harvest has been revised downwards by the French statistical office. There are also hardly any changes on the food market . The listings could increase. In southern Germany, producers try to sell their stocked goods with surcharges, but they hardly succeed. There are too large quantities ready for loading in northern Germany.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
There is a lack of impetus for both food and fried potatoes. The factories are well supplied and the lack of sales campaigns in the food retail sector does not currently give any reason to hope for any significant impetus. Stability in the markets is also expected for the coming week.
