In the potato wholesale trade, there are hardly any sales opportunities for alternative goods. Only very good qualities are taken. Otherwise, imports of early potatoes dominate. Local early potatoes are not yet traded wholesale. Loose-skinned produce is sold ex-farm or via weekly markets. Overall, there are reports of sufficient supply. The first firm-skinned goods are to be offered nationwide in the next few days. Promotional campaigns for domestic early potatoes are already underway in food retailing. These should stimulate sales as the season progresses. The ongoing asparagus season did the rest. In some places, accommodation options improved again before Whitsun, but this had little impact on valuations.
In general, however, business was friendly. The supply of German ware potatoes continues to grow. This week, the first early potatoes from the Palatinate will be added to the range in food retailers.
