Market activity and thus sales to wholesalers remained unchanged recently. Friendly weather and the start of the local asparagus harvest boosted sales across all product ranges. In the case of early table potatoes, the asparagus season naturally provided more momentum.
As sales accelerated noticeably in some areas, but foreign early potatoes were not yet widely available, traders were able to moderately increase their previous demands in some cases. Egyptian early potatoes are being traded at around 80 €/dt free packing plants. Some chains will switch to early potatoes towards Easter.
However, the differences in quality are increasing, so that fewer and fewer lots are being purchased at the higher price range.
Planting is underway in the fields, now also with late varieties. This is an attempt to utilize the remaining moisture in the soil before conditions deteriorate further.
