Sales of table potatoes are currently rated as satisfactory overall. The delivery volumes agreed between producers and retailers have so far largely gone according to plan. Regionally, supply continues to increase as harvest volumes continue to rise. The favourable weather conditions are promoting harvesting progress, but are regularly interrupted by heavy rainfall in some areas.
Farmers have so far been satisfied with yields and quality. However, the price level remains critical: producer prices are under sustained pressure and reflect the increase in acreage and the resulting oversupply. The market situation is therefore not expected to ease in the short term.
Industrial potatoes: oversupply increases price pressure
The situation on the market for industrial potatoes remains tense. Supply continues to significantly exceed demand. In particular, the significant increase in acreage is leading to a structural supply surplus, which is seen as the main reason for the persistently low prices. The processing sector is exerting noticeable pressure on the entire market structure.
This can also be seen on the futures exchange: the April 2026 contract on the EEX recently traded even lower, underlining the persistently negative price expectations.
Regional supply and market impetus
Regional supplies are increasingly coming exclusively from domestic production. The breadth of the product range and supply volumes are increasing noticeably. At the same time, the summer vacations have limited sales locally, forcing food retailers and wholesalers to react with price reductions in certain areas. Sales picked up slightly from Thursday of this week.
In Munich, Italian early potatoes continued to be available, albeit at falling prices due to high competitive pressure from the growing domestic assortment.
