There has still been little change in the fundamental data on the potato market for processing tubers in this country as well as in Belgium and the Netherlands. Supply and demand are largely balanced. The factories concentrate particularly on the acceptance of contract goods. Additional games are only sought occasionally. The quiet but steady trading has recently also been reflected in prices. All quotations for industrial goods were maintained at the previous week's level, and surcharges could not be enforced recently. The French growing association UNPT describes the potato market there as stable and balanced. The prices remain unchanged. Since demand remains at a high level, processors are continually looking for lots for immediate delivery. In recent weeks, exports of French fries to Southern and Eastern Europe in particular have increased, thereby supporting demand. Price levels on the food market have largely stabilized. Demand is described as calm. Impulses are expected for Easter business. Planting continues to be slow due to the wet soil. The hope is that it will remain dry and mild in the coming weeks and that the heavy machinery will be able to go into the fields.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
All in all, the potato market appears to be quite balanced. The demand is constant and frozen goods are particularly in demand among processors. The current growing conditions remain difficult. In addition to the limited availability of planting material, producers are particularly concerned about the soil. In many places the soil is too wet for cultivation with heavy machinery.
