The situation on the processing market remains unchanged in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Factories are asking for few free goods and are continuing to try to utilize their capacities by bringing forward contracts. Prices in these countries are stable. In the Netherlands, prices for category 1 potatoes improved slightly at the upper end. Belgapom is quoting an unchanged 35 euros/dt for Fontane and Reka is also leaving its price fixing unchanged at 39 euros/dt for the Innovator variety. Planting is still not going well. The weather is changeable and is hindering rapid progress in field work. This is evident both in Germany and in the Benelux countries. In France, the export of processing potatoes is picking up speed, and producers are also trying to channel their stored lots into this channel due to the better prices in the export business. Interest on the EEX remains low, with no trading taking place today. The leading April contract expires next week.
On the food market, warehouse keepers can achieve further premiums for boxed chilled goods. In the Rhineland, prices are quoted at around 2 euros, in Lower Saxony up to 4 euros/dt. Early potatoes from the Mediterranean are increasingly coming onto the market and replacing domestic potatoes, but existing stocks can still be sold on the market without any problems. Harvesting is underway in Spain, where observers are expecting good yields. The planting of early varieties is now progressing better, but the planting of the main harvest will be further delayed by rainfall.

The markets for both French fries and potatoes and the tableware segment remain stable. Rising import volumes are not yet causing any lasting problems on the tableware market, with last year's small harvest supporting the market. It will be interesting to see how the weather develops and how quickly producers will be able to order their targeted areas.
