In the current situation on the potato market, an increasing number of offers can be observed. The summer period allows farmers to continue their field work and potato stocks are growing rapidly. While supply is increasing, demand remains rather subdued due to the vacation period and the calm weather. There is already talk of supply surpluses throughout Germany, which is leading to a slight fall in wholesale producer prices. Nevertheless, the current asking prices in direct sales are holding their own. In the industrial sector, production is increasing again and the first field potatoes are being delivered, but there is no demand for free produce and only potatoes from contract farming are being purchased.
Prices for processing potatoes are under pressure, as a rich main crop is expected due to the increased acreage in Germany and the EU. Domestic table potatoes continue to dominate the market, while the summer vacations have reduced demand. Traders responded by reducing supply and occasionally offering discounts to improve sales opportunities. Price increases were rarely seen, while the supply of Italian and Cypriot imports was slightly reduced. In this area, valuations often remained stable at the previous week's level.
