The potato markets remain calm, although the overall situation is causing prices to move significantly northwards. Both Fiwap and Belagpom increased their prices today. PotatoNL had already raised its prices by an average of 3.75 euros/dt to 45-52.50 euros/dt on Monday. Free goods are rare, but the factories are certainly showing demand. It will probably be some time before the first early potato varieties are ready for processing. Reka also raised its prices significantly again today. Fonante is quoted at 50 euros/dt, up 5 euros, while Innovator is quoted at 53 euros/100 kg, also up 5 euros/dt. In France, prices are also firmer. The warehouses here are largely cleared. However, planting for the coming main harvest has largely been completed. Only in the far north are some areas still missing before planting can be declared complete.
The food market remains more manageable. Imported goods are dominating the food retail sector. Producers of early potatoes are preparing for the harvest. Weather conditions are good in most regions in the second half of May, although there are regional differences. In the south in particular, the early potato harvest is likely to pick up speed soon. In the Rhineland and the north, it is usually still too wet to drive on the fields.
