Planting continues to cause problems. There are reports of soil being too wet in eastern Germany, the Rhineland, the heathland region and Bavaria. The summer temperatures at the weekend are unlikely to bring any real improvement to the situation. The situation on the processing market has hardly changed. Belgapom left its quotation unchanged today at 35 euros/dt. Reka in the Rhineland also left its price quotations unchanged again. Factories are buying small quantities of free goods on the market and using them to replenish their contract goods. Due to the difficult growing conditions everywhere, farmers are relaxed about the tubers in storage and are offering hardly any quantities of their own. There has been no trading on the EEX recently. Yesterday the exchange set the settlement for the April contract, which is expiring shortly, at 37.20 euros/dt. The EEXX potato index is trading today at 36.50 euros/dt, 0.20 euros lower than last Friday. In the case of table potatoes , surcharges for chilled box goods are increasingly being discussed. This has become more likely, especially for waxy varieties. However, there are currently sufficient potatoes available. Both domestic goods and imported quantities from Egypt and Israel are available on the market. In Spain, the first early potatoes were harvested this week. The yield is still small and is mainly intended for the Spanish market, rather than for export.

The potato market is off to a stable start in April. Prices have barely changed and are trending sideways. The coming weeks will be exciting, however. There is still no improvement in growing conditions in sight.
