German pork production in the first half of 2015 approximately 2.4% over previous year period
In the first half of the year 2015, a record value of 2.76 million tonnes of pork was generated in German commercial slaughterhouses; an increase of + 67 000 tonnes (+ 2.4%) compared to the first half of 2014. By 2015 the production increase was in the first quarter rd. + 41 500 t, in the second quarter at + 25 500 tonnes. The hogs had an average carcass weight of 94.9 kg.
An above-average production expansion was achieved in comparison to the Previous 3 years although fluctuating but relatively stable level. The declines of the previous year once again more than offset. The increase in production is only a part cause of the current low price levels. The influence factors on the demand side of home and abroad weigh heavier.
The slaughter numbers reached a record level of 29.3 million pigs at slaughter of domestic and foreign origin. Fattened pigs from Germany amounted to 27.2 million animals. The number of slaughter of imported pigs were slaughtered in German slaughterhouses decreased in the same period to - 107 200 animals (- 4.8%) to 2.1 million pigs. The number of pigs slaughtered in the foreign German origin remains comparatively low.
Taking a share of nearly 20% pig imports comes between 25 to 30% of the pigs slaughtered in Germany not from German pig stables. So clearly the specific structural situation of in Germany its piglets deficit and its fattening and slaughter capacity overhangs.
The strongest in the pig-farming States of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony two reach one-third share of the German pig slaughter (North Rhine-Westphalia: 9.9 million animals, Lower Saxony, Germany: 9.4 million animals), where the animals are captured across borders.
The pork production denies two-thirds share of the German total meat production. This is followed by poultry and beef.
