The term "farmer's privilege" refers to the right of farmers to reuse their own crops for sowing. However, this is linked to the condition that fees are paid to the breeder. Small-scale farmers are exempt from the obligation to pay a replanting fee. This privilege is laid down in § 10a of the German Plant Variety Protection Act.
