The Rhine is now closed to shipping between Duisburg and Koblenz, after the water levels had risen after the massive rains of recent weeks. At present, no transports to and from Switzerland are possible.
The flood causes that there is not enough space for the passage under the bridges.
Today, the highest water levels are expected.
The Rhine is the most important waterway for transports of minerals, coal, oil products such as fuel oil as well as grain and animal feed.
