Wheat: Volatility keeps cash market cautious

Wheat prices on both sides of the Atlantic went up again yesterday. In Paris, the March contract ended the trading day with a closing price of EUR 287.75. The signs are only slightly green, but concerns about a cold spell in the USA and doubts about the record harvest in Russia are providing a slight boost. Comments on Ukrainian grain production this year also provide support. On the cash markets, particularly in northern and western Germany, the recent price increase on the stock exchange has caused sellers to be cautious. The trading volume also decreases significantly for short-term deliveries. Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia as well as the Czech Republic and Poland are calling on the EU Commission to find a solution to the price pressure that has been triggered on the farmers there with regard to the trade routes from the Ukraine. Along the overland trade routes set up after the beginning of the war, very cheap goods from the Ukraine are increasingly arriving in these regions and are causing local prices to fall. Today the EU Commission will publish new export figures for the grain markets. Prices at the CBoT also increased. The cold snap that had been announced had the primary effect here. However, the weather reports give a slight all-clear as far as the low temperatures are concerned. Pre-market signs are red on the eCBoT this morning.
