Record harvest 2014 will be as fast to not restore its - high Flächenerträge
The International Grains Council (IGC) has predicted in its annual medium-term preview on the international grain markets by the year 2019 the production development of the European Union .
It turns out that the year has completed 2014 with a far above-average crop . Especially the average yieldwas critical to the outcome in addition to a slightly higher harvested area. The unusually favourable weather conditions in almost all regions of the EU has contributed significantly to the bumper crop. The loss of quality in the wheat remain but sidelined when calculating quantities.
The IGC has adopted perennial average data for the five-year forecast period up to 2019 . It turns out that the crops have no further enlargements. Despite adoption of another average income increases the yield should not again reach the level of 2014.
The quantities of wheat are 154 million tonnes in the year 2014 at 145 million tonnes in the year 2019 fall. The year 2015 is estimated only at 142 million tonnes (or -12 million tonnes).
The corn crops go back over the same period from 73 million tonnes to about 70 million tonnes .
In the case of barley , the harvest level should with just under 70 million tonnes in the year 2019 in comparison to 2014 largely remain unchanged . The upcoming barley crop in 2015 is estimated only at 56 million tons.
As a result, it should be noted, that - as in the previous years already - the EU cereal crops have only low growth potential . The causes are largely constant acreage and only limited increases in yield per hectare. Extraordinary favourable weather conditions allow above-average harvests in single years. With their continental climate (cold winters, hot dry summers), in particular the Central and Eastern European countries contribute to the strong fluctuations in the EU.
