Canada's 2023/24 grain harvest better than feared - rapeseed disappoints The latest assessment by the Canadian Agriculture/Food Board is better than feared in previous forecasts for the grain harvest at the end of November 2023. At around 55 million t, the total harvest is below the previous year's around 60 million t, but exceeds previous expectations. The wheat harvest reached almost 30 million t (previous year 34 million t). Of this, 8.7 million tonnes are consumed domestically and 21.3 million tonnes are exported. These are mainly durum and spring wheat. The remaining grain production amounts to almost 26 million tonnes. (previous year 30.5 million tons). The focus is on corn and barley. Own consumption is estimated at a declining 22 million t. Exports also fall to around 7 million t. The Canadian rapeseed harvest only reached 17.4 million t (previous year 18.7 million t).Despite the increased cultivated area, higher expectations in earlier estimates were not met due to the disappointing area yields of just under 20 dt/ha. Exports fell from last year's 7.9 to this year's 7.7 million t. The unusually high prices of the two previous years are significantly lower.
