Oilseeds commodity prices & news
There are two significant differences between the global grain market and the global oilseed market. Firstly, at 370 million tons, the global trade volume for oilseeds accounts for around 60% of global oilseed production, while the global trade volume for cereals accounts for just over 20% of global cereal production.
Secondly, there are two clearly defined camps in the oilseed market. The main producers and exporters are mainly concentrated in countries on the American continent, both in South and North America. Around 60% of the world's oilseeds are produced there, and around 70% of the world's oilseed exports come from this region. Among oilseed importers, around 50% of imports are concentrated in just two countries or regions. China alone imports around a third of all oilseeds & meals & oils of the total world trade volume with a good 120 million tons, while the EU-27 as the second largest importer recently purchased around 54 million tons of oilseeds & meals & oils, around one sixth of the world trade volume.
