DRV cuts German grain harvest again

DRV: again corrects the 2020 harvest downwards - even less wheat, but more corn   The German Raiffeisenverband (DRV) in its latest June estimate of the German grain harvest comes to 44.2 million tons. The result remains just below the previous year and also behind a 5-year average.   The cultivated area is 2020 by 2.2% from the previous year, but is offset by h öheren income expectations of reduced 2.1% only partially. The average area yield is estimated at 70.9 dt / ha. However, there are still concerns that the recent rainfall could cause regional damage.  The wheat harvest is t to below-average 22.2 million and estimated -3.7% year on year. The main reason is the 6.6% decline in space, which is not offset by the 3.1% increase in yield expectations compared to the previous year . Reduced 76.3 dt / ha are estimated per hectare . As a rule, the wheat tends to be in good locations with better water storage capacity.   The winter barley harvest is expected to be -5.2% worse than last year. A smaller acreage and falling yield estimates have contributed to this. In contrast, the areas of spring barley were increased. The income assumptions are also higher than in the previous year. Overall, a result of 6.1% higher for this summer grain is expected. With less beer consumption, less brewing barley is needed.  The rye harvest should be 10.2 % better than in the moderate previous year. The background to this is a 3.9% increase in acreage and a higher yield forecast of 6.1% compared to the May estimate. Rye is mostly on lighter soils, but is comparatively frugal when it comes to water consumption.   The triticale harvest fell by -2.9 % compared to the previous year. The decisive factor of the 3.2% strength is growing - decline. The DRV does not see higher earnings expectations compared to the previous year .   The maize surface is covered by the elevations greater by 10.7% of Ge than in previous years.Combined with a higher yield estimate of 7.7 %, the maize harvest is expected to be 19.3% higher than the weak result of the previous year. In view of the shortage of basic forage, areas may still be rededicated for silage maize.   The area data come from the latest surveys by the Stat. Federal Office as of May 15, 2020. The estimates made at the current time are subject to uncertainties with regard to the assumed area yields. The biggest problem is the regional rainfall, which is still relevant for the yield generation of the late varieties .   Despite the below-average German harvest prospects, no supply shortages are expected. In neighboring France, which sometimes has higher rainfall , an above-average grain harvest is predicted. The supply of grain is rated very high worldwide .
