Nov.-2022: EU-COM estimates EU grain production at just 268 million tons In its November issue, the EU Commission again corrected the grain supply in the internal market slightly downwards. Usable generation falls by around 8% to just 268.4 million t. The wheat harvest reaches almost 127 million tons. The result for K. corn was again corrected downwards to 53.3 million t. On the other hand, barley production will increase slightly to 51.6 million tons. Total domestic consumption falls only slightly by -1.7% to just under 256 million t. Use for direct human consumption remains essentially unchanged at around 59 million t. On the other hand, feed consumption decreased significantly by -2.3%. The weak K. maize harvest is decisive. Use in industrial recycling is also declining. EU grain imports increased by a substantial 42% to 31.6 million t, mainly due to maize imports of 23 milliont to offset the domestic deficit. Grain exports fell by almost 1% to 48.3 million tons. This includes around 34 million tons of wheat and almost 10 million tons of barley. The low harvest result, in connection with third country trade, leads to a significant reduction in stocks . The overlay quantities fall from the previous year's 47.3 to 43.2 million t; that's enough for 61 days (previous year: 66 days) and is in the good middle range of recent years. The stock market prices have stabilized again after the recent fall phase. Wheat is quoted at an average of €325/t in Paris, while corn falls below the €300/t line. In Chicago , wheat is traded at around €270/t and corn at around €250/t.
