MARS: Yield forecasts for the EU wheat and barley harvest 2018 The Agricultural Meteorological Institute of the European Commission (MARS) has carried out a first projection of possible yield levels in the individual EU Member States based on its measurements of climate data. The results are closely based on the 5-year averages from 2013 to 2017, respectively. their trend development. 2 Cold spells and high rainfall in the majority of northern European Member States have contributed to delays in the vegetation development of winter crops and late summer crops . Significant earnings reductions are not expected. On the other hand, peak returns are unlikely to be expected either. In the case of wheat , MARS expects yields in the average of the last 5 years in most countries. This applies to Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland and the other northern European countries. Over the multi-year average, the Druschergebnisse should be in France. These prospects also exist for a whole series of Southeastern European production areas. Wheat yields in a range of 21 dt / ha in Portugal vary over 50 dt / ha in the south-east European areas, 80 dt / ha in Germany up to almost 100 dt / ha in Ireland. The barley yields are at a lower level in the center of gravity between 60 to 80 dt / ha. The forecasts, however, remain almost everywhere with average range. Only in the southeast of Europe is expected with above-average results. The yield forecasts are to be interpreted with reservations. They can be taken as a guide to how well the seeds have come over the winter and how the prospects for late spring sowing are to be assessed. The current conclusion amounts to an average level of earnings. The profit-determining period of grain formation , however, is still to come in the coming months. And last but not least, the harvest conditions determine the final result.
