Official Harvest Result 2018 of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture The Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BMEL) has published the results of the Special Harvest Discovery for the year 2018. According to this, 34.5 million t are harvested in Germany for cereals without K.Mais / CCM . This is the lowest production since 1994. In comparison, the harvest volume is just under 16% below the weak previous year. For a multi-year average comparison, the gap is even close to 19%.For the different types of cereals, the results were very different. The usually dryness-tolerant rye suffered the most at almost -30% below the perennial average. The key reason is that rye is widely distributed in the northeastern regions most affected by this year's heatwave. For winter wheat, winter barley and triticale crop losses of around 20% have been found. For summer cereals, more of a larger area was ordered due to sprouted seeds, so that despite lower yields, total cereals increased. The individual growing regions in Germany show clear priorities in crop losses. Schleswig-Holstein got worst of all with a decline of almost 31% . Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg have to cope with production declines of 25 to 26% . Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt are also among the hard-hit areas with a reduction of 22 to 23% . In the southeastern countries, the drought was not so devastating, but at least 15% of the damage in Thuringia, 13% in Saxony, 11% in Bavaria and 10% in Hesse was recorded .NRW gained -3.4% and Baden-Württemberg -4.1% . In Rhineland-Palatinate, even a larger harvest of +6% is detected. Harvesting is not yet complete because the maize can not be assessed with sufficient accuracy without the help of threshing results. However, the tendency is that there will be considerable crop losses in this sector as well, including total failures.
