- GDT auction in Oct. 2023: +4.3%
The second October 2023 auction of Global Dairy Trade (GDT) continued the price rise of the previous auctions with an average of +4.3%. The big winner was butterfat with +7.1%. But the two milk powders have also increased significantly again. Rising Chinese demand is the deciding factor. At 35,794 t, the auction volume remains at the usual high level for the season. The peak of New Zealand production is the month of October. Whole milk powder (VMP) (around 50% auction share) continued its upward trend with an average of +4.2%. The largest buyer is China. Compared to the MMP price, VMP is still relatively inexpensive. The VMP price level is again at the 5-year average at $3,059/t. After the discounts in previous auctions , skimmed milk powder (SMP) (around 25%) has repeatedly improved significantly with an average of +4.3%. China's influence is also effective here. The result is moving towards the 5-year average. The absolute MMP prices reach $2,659/t, but remain below the EEX prices (2.701 $/t) und den Chicagoer Notierungen von 2.656 $/t.
Butterreinfettkurse (rd. Anteil 10%) haben sich mit +7,1 % den höchsten Aufpreis erzielt. Allerdings bestand Nachholbedarf. Besonders kräftig fielen die Monate um den Jahreswechsel mit +8,9 % ins Gewicht (Neujahrseffekt). Positive Erwartungen wecken auch die etwas moderateren Aufpreise in den ersten Monaten des neuen Jahres.
Normalbutter (rd. Anteil 8 %) hat sich nach Preissteigerungen in der Vorauktion wiederholt mit +2,9 % im Durchschnitt nach oben hin stabilisiert. Mit 4.940 $/t ist der absolute Butterpreis auf das 5-Jahresmittel gestiegen. EEX Leipzig notiert umgerechnet bei 4.987 $/t und die Chicagoer Kurse sind ungewöhnlich stark auf 6.658 $/t gestiegen.
Das durchschnittliche Auktionsergebnis überschreitet den 10-Jahresdurchschnitt.
