- GDT auction in Oct. 2023: +4.4%
The first October 2023 auction of Global Dairy Trade (GDT) continued the price increase of the two previous auctions with an average of +4.4%. The big winners were the two milk powder products. Rising Chinese demand is having an impact. At 38,350 t, the auction volume remains at the usual high level for the season. The peak of New Zealand production is reached in the current month of October. Whole milk powder (VMP) (around 50% auction share) continued its upward trend with an average of +4.8%. This largely offset previous price reductions. Compared to the MMP price, VMP is relatively inexpensive. At $2,931/t, the VMP price level is only just below the 5-year average. As usual, China was the largest buyer. Skimmed milk powder (SMP) (roughly 25%) has again significantly improved on average with an average of +6.6% after the discounts in previous preliminary auctions. China's influence is also effective here. The result is moving towards the 5-year average. The absolute MMP prices reach 2.558 $/t und bleiben unter die EEX-Kurse (2.4597 $/t) und den Chicagoer Notierungen von 2.471 $/t.
Butterreinfettkurse (rd. Anteil 10%) haben sich mit +3,7 % nochmal deutlich erholt. Besonders kräftig fiel der Nov-Termin mit +11,1 % aus. Positive Erwartungen wecken auch die Aufpreise in den ersten Monaten des neuen Jahres.
Normalbutter (rd. Anteil 8 %) hat sich nach ersten Aufpreisen in der Vorauktion mit +1,3 % im Durchschnitt nach oben hin stabilisiert. Mit 4.806 $/t liegt der absolute Butterpreis weiter knapp im 5-Jahresmittel. EEX Leipzig notiert umgerechnet bei 4.965 $/t und die Chicagoer Kurse sind stark auf 5.881 $/t gestiegen
Das durchschnittliche Auktionsergebnis erreicht den 10-Jahresdurchschnitt.
