Cattle counting result 01. 04.2017: Denmark restores sows to high pig and piglet prices In Denmark, too, the sows keep the stock of sows significantly reduced in the previous year . On the other hand, the Danish fattening pigs remain on the retreat. The causes of this development have been the same for years. The scarce land availability and the concomitant restrictions on livestock farming are relatively less favorable for piglet production than for pig slaughter. In addition, Denmark has set up a powerful organization for ferry exports, which ensure the sales of the Danish piglet surplus, which has now grown to 40%. The large sows have grown particularly strongly . Meanwhile, the average stock is approx. 850 animals . For comparison: the Netherlands comes to approx. 550 and in Germany the brand of 200 is reached. The Ferkelexporte mostly go to Germany, but the increase is only small.Increasing volumes are exporting the Danes towards Poland . The large Polish piglet deficit is due to a 50% reduction in the small-scale sows kept since EU accession in 2004. In the future, the restructuring of the pigs is expected to continue. Denmark will continue to focus on piglets rather than fattening pigs. In terms of animal husbandry with a high claim to animal justice , Denmark is almost always in the top position. This is no coincidence, as the pork sector contributes significantly to the gross national product of Denmark at 15%.
