A forecast by the French statistics office Agreste, according to which the potato harvest in 2019 should bring just under 6.6 million tons of consumer potatoes, is highly controversial among market participants. That would be a bumper crop, because it would exceed the result of the year 2017 yet. Critics say that sample rotting can only be from rained areas. However, only 60% of potato fields are irrigated in France. The fact is that even in France, the cultivation of consumer potatoes was significantly expanded this year. The area extension to now 152,000 hectares corresponds to the growing demand from the potato processing industry.
The courses for processed potato (FAPPJ0) at the EEX in Leipzig yielded today up to 11,1 € / dt. This is the lowest price on the April 20 futures contract.
