In its second auction this week, China has sold 495,000 tonnes of its state corn reserves. The lion's share was corn from the 2014 harvest. This year, China has so far sold 27.8 million tonnes of maize from intervention stocks.
The country intends to rapidly reduce the huge reserves and wants to promote the cultivation of oilseeds.
