After a difficult year for potato marketing in Europe, the French statistics office Agreste surprised by the fact that the farmers there have expanded their cultivation area for consumer potatoes. If the survey is correct, 3,500 hectares have been added and the total area has increased to 142,400 hectares. Three years ago, 33,000 fewer hectares were cultivated. This new lumbering record in the EU country, which has been striking for over a year now with aggressive offers to put pressure on prices across Europe, is not good news for free-to-consumer potato sellers such as table potatoes or non-delivery raw materials. However, the latter still has the opportunity to secure cost-covering prices on the futures exchange in the April 19 deadline.
