German food exports rose to China in the first half of 2015 to almost 47%, the Federal Association of the German food industry (BVE) announced yesterday. The strong increase in food exports is in stark contrast with the not even 1% of all German exports to China rising (source: DIHK).
China's strong demand for German food is justified, that Chinese consumers little confidence in locally produced food products have the German trade and invest (GTAI). Especially for German milk products, there is a great need for says Stefanie Schmitt of the GTAI in Beijing. People no longer trust the Chinese milk products as there had been so many scandals in the past. Then the demand shot foreign dairy products in the amount and in particular, German products were cheaper than goods from New Zealand or Australia. China's consumers to transfer the positive image of German cars and machinery to other products, says Schmitt.
Exports of German food products to China rose by 47% to EUR 604 million, so the BVE. China was Germany's fourth largest export market with 6.6% of all exports to third countries. China's economy, which had regularly achieved double-digit growth rates in the past, is currently slower growing. The Government in Beijing estimated economic growth in the second quarter of 2015 at 7%, but some economists doubt that what was the local capital market under pressure. In this mood, the behavior of the consumer is affected.
