After the upward movement of the past few days, corn contracts on the Euronext/Matif in Paris went south yesterday. The March contract lost EUR 0.75/t and closed at EUR 279.25/t. Fundamentally, little has changed in the European market environment. This is not likely to change with today's publication of the EU import figures for grain. Because of the small harvest in Europe, corn imports are at a high level. The CBoT also went slightly south. Market participants are primarily talking about profit-taking here after contracts hit a 14-day high yesterday. Soybean and corn harvesting is currently taking place in Brazil. However, these are running much more slowly than in other years. As a result, the second maize sowing could tend to take place later. This in turn should benefit American exporters. With the start of pre-market trading on Wednesday, the CBoT is again showing declining corn prices.
