The corn harvest in Ukraine could set a new record of 27 to 28 million tons this year and sales to China are expected to rise by 10%. Ukraine benefits from trade tensions between the US and China, according to the Minister of Agriculture Maksym Martyniuk.
The already flourishing export of oilseeds from the Black Sea region is also benefiting from this.
Ukraine exported 2.6 million tonnes of corn to China in the 2017/18 season (September / August). Total exports were 16.6 million tons.
Weather conditions for late maize were excellent in Ukraine, with good corn yields offsetting wheat yield (-12 to -16%). Winter crops such as rapeseed and wheat have suffered from heavy rains last fall.
The Ukrainian grain harvest is estimated at 60 million tons (previous year: 61.3 million tons).
For the sunflower harvest, the weather was also beneficial. The harvest in Ukraine, the world's largest exporter of sunflower oil, is estimated at 13.3 million tonnes.
