Barley exports from Ukraine to Saudi Arabia increased by 55% to 464,000 tonnes since July 1, compared to the same period last year. The reason given by the market analyst APK is the weaker production in other grain exporting countries. Australia, Canada and Russia are mentioned.
The amount of barley available for export in Ukraine will remain virtually at the level of the previous year at 4.1 million tonnes.
By August 13, 2018, Ukraine harvested 7.1 million tons of barley from 95% of the acreage.
APK also points to the current political dispute between Saudi Arabia and Canada, in which the Saudis prohibit grain imports from Canada.
Ukraine exported 4.28 million tonnes of barley during the 2017/18 season. Of that, 1.9 million tonnes went to Saudi Arabia.
