EU Commission estimates rapeseed harvest in 2018 at over 22 million t - frost damage is still unclear! In its latest assessment of the EU oilseeds market in 2018/19 , the EU Commission forecasts a rapeseed harvest in excess of 22.3 million tonnes, with the main focus on Poland, with the main focus on the loss of crop damage . That would be an above-average result, even if the record volumes of 2014-15 are not reached. According to the observations made so far, the third largest production area in Poland is likely to suffer from above-average hibernation damage due to the strong frost temperatures and the lack of up to low snowpacks, although their exact extent can not yet be estimated.With partial Auswinterungsschäden may be expected for the same reasons in the German Mittelgebirgen . The extent of the damage is still unknown. The future EU supply situation for oilseed rape assumes a small initial stock of 1.1 million tonnes. The necessary import is expected to be 3.6 million t lower than in the current year with more than 4.2 million t. Overall, EU consumption is estimated at 25.5 million tonnes , slightly less than in the previous year.The EU sunflower harvest estimates the EU Commission at 9.9 million t just below the 5-year average. Imports should be slightly higher at 0.5 million t than in previous years. The sunflower market is taking place especially in the south-eastern European regions. EU soybean demand is estimated to be just below the traditional 16.5 million tonnes. Of these, approx. 14 million t imported. Self-production of soya is estimated by the EU-COM at approx. 2.8 million t. Although soybean production within the EU has doubled in the last 5 years, it still accounts for only a fraction of total demand. In addition, soybean meal imports of just under 20 million tonnes have to be taken into account.In the oilseeds sector, the EU remains just under 67% self- sufficient, as on average in previous years. The focus of the demand gap lies in the subarea of plant protein.
