Aug.2022: DRV corrects German harvest - massive losses in corn In its most recent harvest estimate, the German Raiffeisen Association (DRV) corrects German grain production downwards to 42,938 million tons . Compared to the 5-year average, the result is +0.7% higher than the previous year by 1.8%. However, the last word has not yet been spoken. Harvests in the order of 50 million tons and average wheat yields of over 80 dt/ha are a thing of the past. The persistent drought is expected to lead to further losses in the corn harvest . It is to be expected that, due to the scarcity of fodder, planned grain maize areas will increasingly be converted to silo maize. As with the July estimate, the better than expected results for barley and wheat in terms of yield and quality are confirmed. However, the regional differences depending on the location conditions are very large. Halvings are opposed to doublings.Grain prices are determined by what is happening on the world market, with a focus on Black Sea exports, and local transport problems. Needs-based provision is becoming increasingly expensive due to the limited means of transport available. The DRV estimates the German rapeseed harvest to be somewhat more favorable at around 4 million tons. An 8.5% increase in cultivated area and a 5.5% increase in area yields contributed to this.
