MARS estimates cereal yields in 2020 despite a lack of precipitation only slightly lower, the Agricultural Meteorological Institute of the European Commission (MARS) is reduced in its recent publication, the expected yield per unit area on average in the EU Member States only very slightly compared to the previous month estimate. The evaluation of the climate data reveals a very mild winter and comparatively wet months in February and March . However, the rainfall in April is extremely far below the long-term average. The hours of sunshine were unusually high. According to the observations, the winter seeds are still in good condition. Spain and Portugal as well as those in the Baltic States and Finland with above-average rainfall are exceptions.In the large parts of Germany and south-east European countries there were night frosts down to -10 degrees in the observation period until the end of April. In its forecast , MARS expects a good average grain yield based on the 5-year average. Above-average yield expectations are based on grain maize, rye and triticale. The earnings forecasts are mainly based on trend calculations , from which the individual annual results may well deviate. Rain is urgently needed for further development. Therefore, the earnings forecasts are extremely uncertain. According to the current weather forecasts, rain showers should move over the country in the next 8 days. However, the amount of precipitation will vary from region to region because the thunderstorms it contains are spatially limited.
