EU COM estimates the 2024/25 EU grain harvest at 279 million t - consumption unchanged In its most recent March 24 edition, the EU COM estimated the 2024/25 EU grain harvest at just under 279 million t or +3. 4% higher than estimated last year. A slightly increased acreage and slightly higher yield expectations contributed to this. Domestic consumption of 257.1 million t is expected to hardly change. However, exports are expected to increase by +3.4%, while at the same time imports are expected to fall significantly by -12.5%. EU wheat production is expected to deliver 127.4 million t (previous year: 132.6 million t) with almost 1 million hectares of reduced cultivated area and largely unchanged area yields. The barley harvest is estimated to rise to 53.7 million t (previous year: 47.5 million t) due to the increase in acreage. Corn is to be grown on 9.15 million hectares (previous year 8.4 million hectares) and, with higher average yields, a harvest of around 69 million. t (previous year: 62.3 million t). For the other cereals, only small improvements of around 1 to 2% are expected. The overstock stocks at the end of the 2024/25 marketing year are expected to increase only slightly to 48.7 million t.
